Who We Are

We are a small, family-friendly congregation with the unique advantage of fostering fellowship, authenticity, and simplicity within our church community. We focus on our purpose and maintain close connections through discipleship and community missions to create a meaningful and impactful environment for our members and the local community.

What to expect

Deep Run West is a welcoming place to connect with a friendly community, engage in meaningful worship, and experience personal growth. Our facilities are accessible for individuals with disabilities, ensuring everyone can participate in our services. As you arrive and enter through the main doors, you will receive a warm greeting and helpful guidance to the sanctuary and various meeting spaces. Our worship services balance casual and traditional, featuring a blend of classic hymns and contemporary praise music. Additionally, we provide a supervised nursery for the comfort and care of infants and toddlers. We offer a separate children’s church twice a month. We are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to welcome and connect with you!

History

We are often asked why there are two Mennonite churches across the street from each other, with people wondering, "Can't you get along?"

In 1849 the congregation was divided into two groups due to various issues. These groups came to be known as "Old Order Mennonites - Deep Run East" and "New Order Mennonites - Deep Run West." The division was over the creation of a written church constitution, the establishment of Sunday Schools, and the publication of church materials.

Within a hundred years, those "new" ideas were eventually embraced by the "old-order Mennonites". Today, we share several services with each other every year, and both congregations have their specialties.

Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective

We share a Mennonite or Anabaptist perspective on matters of faith. This perspective helps us understand our commitment to following Jesus Christ.

  • Following Jesus in daily life is a central value.

  • We believe it is possible to follow Jesus as Lord above nationalism, racism, or materialism.

  • We believe that it is possible to follow Jesus as a peacemaker. We believe that we can practice the way of Jesus’ reconciling love in human conflicts and warfare, without having to strike out in fear to defend ourselves.

  • We believe that we can live life simply and in service to others as a witness to God’s love for the world.
